Letter Carrier, Shmetter Carrier

by Christy on August 13, 2010

Isn’t it interesting how we tend to define people by their ‘day job’? How many times have you wondered what the person on the other end of the cash register or phone line is like in their so-called real life?

During the last four months, I’ve helped promote many enthusiasts’ side projects. Besides being an adventure, it has helped me appreciate my own sense of variety and perspective. And perspective is exactly what local author, Kim Doll, has given me as I continue to dig deeper into this tale of Moon Shadow.

Kim is a Letter Carrier by day and a creative writer by night. While she has been enduring this unbearable heat to deliver our mail, her tale of Moon Shadow is slowly seeping into the cracks of Facebook pages, bulletin boards and eyes of local Borders Bookstore patrons each day.  In fact, you can now pick up a copy of her book at our Borders Bookstore in the ‘All Things Local’ section.  Note:  If you go in and request it at the Customer Service desk, make sure to indicate it is a local consignment book.

Castaway Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E) was chosen as Kim’s first organization to be benefited by one of her book signing events. C.A.R.E. is a local, non-profit and no-kill animal shelter dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals. We hope you will join us at this exciting event and support a great cause and local author.

Details for the event are as follows:

Date: Saturday, August 28

Time: 1:00-3:00pm

Benefit: $5 from every book sold & signed at the event will go directly to C.A.R.E and Borders will hold a Benefit Day where a percentage of daily sales will also support C.A.R.E.

Weather permitting, C.A.R.E. will have their mobile adoption unit on-site at Borders.

Just finished reading the book. Was a little hard to follow the first chapter, but got better as it went on. I found the book very entertaining. I would suggest any animal lover to read it. I think if the book was in a pet store like Petsmart, it would catch the attention of many people. Great job. Great imagination.
